Aiding Those in Financial Hardship

The number of people living in financial hardship is constantly increasing, especially during the pandemic. Some need support to feed families, some have lost employment due to Covid-19, and many have fallen through the gaps in Government support. We provide hampers of food and essentials, run a regular food pantry, and aim to make people feel that they are not alone.

We also fundraise and collect donations to provide people with gifts on special occasions – like shoeboxes full of gifts at Christmas, and our current appeal for Easter eggs to make sure every child has a chocolate egg on Easter day.

What we offer

Community hub

Please note that the Community Hub in Builth Wells is currently closed while the charity undergoes a period of consolidation.

Located in Llanelwedd, Builth Wells, our Community Hub is open to the public Monday to Thursday, 10am to 2pm every week. You can come along for a warm space to chat, have a cuppa, play games – there’s plenty for kids to do too. We offer hot meals daily, as well as washing & drying facilities.

A food pantry is open at the Builth hub Monday to Thursday, 10am to 2pm. Come along and collect some food – there’s no stigma and no referral needed.

Come to the Builth hub on Mondays, 12–2pm, for Luncheon Club – a hot meal with up to three courses. The meals are free, or we accept donations from those who can afford to donate. We also deliver these lunches within an approx. 10-mile radius of the hub, for a small charge of £2 towards the fuel.

Cookery on a budget lessons take place at the Builth hub every Thursday and are open to all ages.

The team go out in Cardiff every Monday, providing hot meals for homeless people, and building relationships to enable us to provide further assistance and signposting.

What can you do to help?

We welcome all donations of food and essentials. The most useful items are UHT milk, baked beans, cereal, tinned spaghetti, pasta sauces, margarine, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, sugar, washing up liquid and toilet rolls, but everything you can donate is much appreciated. To find out the best place to drop off donations in your area, just give us a call on 07955 518 669.

We make good use of supermarket vouchers to buy in bulk, which helps us to make up hampers for more people in need. If you are a supermarket or organisation wishing to help in this way, please get in touch with us on hohwsec@gmail.com.

“I have just received my food hamper from Helping our Homeless Wales! I have a few dietary restrictions but they made sure everything was up to standards and safe for me. Extremely wonderful and generous people, very helpful when it comes to asking information. I cannot thank you enough for helping me, keep doing what you do.”
